Joanie’s intention in earning her degree in Graphic Design was to learn the technical skills necessary to provide the quilting community with creative planning solutions using her unique and elegant style. It takes only a quick look at one of Joanie’s design collections to appreciate how she works as a designer. Constructing a quilt top is only the beginning, just a canvas to fill with sculptured, dimensional artwork. Next, the entire quilt layout is visualized and systematically divided into zones where her imagination explores numerous ways to completely fill all of the areas with coordinating designs. Collections of blocks, setting triangles and multi-sized border designs take the guesswork out of planning your projects.

Fancy Alphabet Quilting Design Packet

Frame for the 4" initial

Here is the perfect square frame for one Initial from the Fancy Alphabet or any square design approximately 4" square. The easel-backed frame has a mirror in the opening allowing an easy surface mount application. Just cut a stiff piece of cardboard a bit smaller than the opening, wrap the edges of quilted piece to the back and glue or tape. Use heavy-duty double-sided tape to adhere to the mirror.

Joanie is combining talents with Golden Threads, the company that offers quilt design solutions that make every quilt a work of art. Her original designs are available for hand, home machine, frame, and longarm machine quilting products.

Their first collaboration is a new concept called Elements stencil packets. The packet includes a single element cut from stencil plastic and Joanie's unique vision for using that design as a block, setting triangle, border and corner block, all printed full size. Additional layouts are also included for using the Elements as wholecloth quilts and table runners or with any patchwork. Also included in the package are marking instructions, as well as basic information on how to complete the designs using free-motion techniques with your home sewing machine. There are ten design packets currently available and all are quite simple to stitch.

Joanie’s second innovative product with Golden Threads. Options, are interchangeable stencils that include several full-size designs cut from one large stencil that can be separated for easy use. The concept for the product is to begin stitching graceful patterns with flowing lines. When you are comfortable with that, add a simple motif and later add a more complicated design. Many patterns can be created from one stencil by combining the designs. Beautiful blocks, borders, and edge-to-edge designs are illustrated on an attached design sheet.
